Head coach Brian Schottenheimer isn't wasting any time in figuring out what went wrong this season for the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys' 2025 season ended in Week 18 with a 34-17 loss to the New York Giants, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer isn't taking any great length of time to reflect on where his team can improve ...

The truth-telling starts now.

A 7-9-1 record, with an offense that showed it can be Super Bowl-caliber burdened by defense that is the worst in football, all make it clear where Dallas' attention needs to be.

With the expectation of plenty of moving and shaking both from a player and staff standpoint, the next couple of months are going to be vital for Schottenheimer's regime heading into the offseason.

And the first-time head coach swears he isn't waiting around to make changes.

"It starts immediately,” Schottenheimer said. “I'll study the film tonight and look at it (on the team plane) on the way back. We'll have the exit interviews, will go through the process, I think that process is important, where you talk to the players, you talk to the coaches, you evaluate everything.

"I think there'll be some very clear things that we need to address.”

With, we assume, the first duty being to determine the future of defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

Yes, there is plenty of work to do on other staffers and on the re-signing of players like George Pickens and Javonte Williams and on free agency and the NFL Draft.

For most, the "clear" things the Cowboys have to address is the defense - and its staff leadership. Plain and simple.

It starts with Eberflus, and the Cowboys have to use most of their draft capital and salary cap to try to fix this awful unit.

For some, the changes this defense needs can't be made in one offseason, but Dallas has to do its best. You are on the clock with Dak Prescott and his $60 million APY contract. You can't "waste" another year.

Black Monday is here, and expect some movement at The Star, folks as the Jones family and Schottenheimer "immediately" start swinging the axe.
