Many think the Cowboys could be buyers before the trade deadline, with pass rusher a big need, but Woodson doesn't think Dallas should be buyers in the coming weeks.

The NFL trade deadline of Nov. 10 is fast approaching, with the Dallas Cowboys, for some, absolutely in the "buyer" mind frame.

Sitting at 3-4, the Cowboys' season is still alive, and with a couple of winnable games coming up against the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts, some think Dallas should look to add talent.

The obvious one is a pass rusher like Josh Sweat or Khalil Mack or Maxx Crosby, guys who would immediately upgrade the position for coordinator Christian Parker.

However, given how bad the defense is, you could argue that the Cowboys shouldn't go all-in because this boat has far too many holes in the hull. It's taking on water.

But if Dallas wins the next two games and moves to 5-4, then maybe we could have a conversation.

And for Cowboys legend Darren Woodson, who spoke exclusively to our own Mike Fisher, when asked if he would give up future assets to acquire help, "Woody" was rather definitive in his answer.

"No," Woodson said. "It would have to be someone that is just special. There's just so many holes, depth-wise. I'm not a believer that I'm looking at this team, specifically on the defensive side of the ball, saying, they just need one guy that's going to be the difference-maker.

"They need multiple players. They need another corner, they need depth at the linebacker position, some real depth. Some guys that knock your teeth to the back of your throat.

"They're not there yet. One player won't make the difference, sorry."

And Woody is right.

Yes, a player like Maxx would make a little difference, but the Cowboys still have dire needs at linebacker and corner, both as starters and depth.

So, there are a host of moves this franchise has to make before it can be seen as a genuine defense in the NFL. Not just one move.

How the next couple of weeks go will likely determine how vigorous Dallas will be in looking for outside help - owner Jerry Jones on Friday on 105.3 The Fan downplayed the idea - but Woody hit the nail on the head here.

There are too many problems with this defense that can't/won't be solved by one player coming in before the trade deadline.

So, while it is a fun idea to think about Jerry Jones looking for that big splash, which even he said isn't really likely, the harsh truth is this defense isn't one player away from being the unit they want to be.

They are several players away. And that's just the harsh truth.
