The Cowboys and their staff are attending several Pro Days as the draft edges closer, but what exactly are they looking for?

The Dallas Cowboys, like every other NFL team, are busy doing the rounds all over the country as various colleges host their Pro Days.

It is a chance for draft hopefuls to put their best foot forward after the scouting combine as they get put through their paces with NFL head coaches, scouts, and anyone else you can think of in attendance.

Teams look for a host of things during drills, as they scout players that they might potentially draft in a couple of weeks.

But as it turns out, Pro Days aren't all about football, especially for Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

Known as a "culture guy," Schotty has made it clear how important it is to have the right people in the building as he tries to bring his vision to life.

And to do that, he looks at a host of things during these Pro Days.

"I think it starts with getting to know the young man," Schottenheimer said in an interview with Tommy Yarrish. "So we try to get in early and take them to dinner, get a chance to see them in a environment other than in the facility where they're talking football, doing football things that they love.

"That's really important to us, get to know the person, what motivates them, what's important to them."

So that takes care of the off-field part of the evaluation.

But as we know, off-field things don't win football games. It's what players do on the field that carries a lot of weight.

And Schottenheimer is very attentive to how the players conduct themselves.

Even when they think they aren't being watched.

"In this type of setting, you want to see the guys compete, are they the front of the line? Are they listening? What are they doing? It's not so much the movement and things like that, we've seen plenty of film," he added.

"It's more of do they follow instructions. Are they competing? Do they have good juice and energy? Those are the things that kind of jump off during the Pro Days."

So what the Cowboys and Schottenheimer are after in a player has been laid out.

This week, the Cowboys visited all around the country and all around the state, for Pro Days with the Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders and more.

And for players hoping to get drafted by the Cowboys, Schottenheimer just told you exactly what he's looking for.
