Christian Parker's NFL debut as Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator was the stuff of nightmares.
His unit was awful, with constant miscommunication, the inability to stop the run, and costly penalties plaguing his team.
Plus, they allowed the New York Giants to convert nine of their 11 third downs, so the defense couldn't get off the field, leaving Dak Prescott and Co. sitting on their hands in the second half.
The mark of a true leader is how they respond to adversity, and we all knew it was coming in 2026...just not against the Giants first up.
But now, Parker has the entire NFL world watching him in Week 2 as the Washington Commanders come to AT&T Stadium.
So, how did he deal with what was a horror show of a debut?
"I think getting back to work, it's one poor performance, it's one loss that does not equal two," Parker said. "Our thing was when we got back here, and it started on the plane, was watching the tape, being critical of the mistakes, finding substance in the failure.
"We're not trying to make excuses for anything, and we're not trying to act like it didn't happen. We got to look in the mirror. We got to be accountable for what we did wrong and what we did right, correct it, and then move on to the next opponent because it can't be a hangover, and it can't linger."
Parker is right. The stench of Week 1 can't hang around.
Having been lauded for his way of teaching and communicating, we are about to see just how good Parker is at both this week.
Because if the Cowboys roll out another performance as they did in Week 1, serious questions will be asked of the new "hot shot" coordinator, who simply had no answer to the veteran offensive duo of Matt Nagy and Greg Roman.
Everyone has preached that they will fix the issues, they will get better, and will show it on Sunday, but I think Cowboys Nation is a little tired of all the talk.
They want action.
And against the Commanders, all eyes will be on Parker and his defense to see if any positive changes will come.
Everyone inside the building seems that change is coming.
Color me skeptical until I see it.
