The Cowboys have had a lot of roster turnover this offseason, but one analyst thinks the franchise made a bad move.
The Dallas Cowboys' offseason has seen a lot of moving and shaking personnel-wise, with the franchise seeing a lot of roster turnover, mostly on defense.
With Christian Parker at the helm, it was evident early on that he wanted specific players for certain roles, hence why Jadeveon Clowney wasn't brought back.
But for all the signings the Cowboys made, they also had some outgoings, and one in particular created some debate.
And that was Dallas trading away defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to the San Francisco 49ers for a third-round pick (No. 92).
The move took some by surprise, but considering the Cowboys had three defensive tackles making $20 million APY, that was a lot of money tied up in the defensive front.
So Osa was moved on, leaving Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams as the two beasts in the middle for Parker.
However, not everyone thinks the Cowboys made the right move, with ESPN's Seth Walder stating Dallas traded away the wrong player.
"The Cowboys chose the wrong D-tackle to deal, as Odighizuwa is younger and makes less than Clark, plus is arguably better than the veteran at this stage of their respective careers," Walder wrote.
"The Cowboys would have gotten less draft capital for Clark, but I don't think they fared particularly well with the Odighizuwa deal and wonder if they didn't trade Clark, who was part of the Parsons deal, due to the optics."
Now, did Dallas commit a major mistake in the move-on from the wrong player? That's subjective.
But what the Cowboys did do in moving on from Osa was free up cap space, plus also getting an extra draft pick, which they were hellbent on getting.
Plus, maybe Dallas' reasoning to move on from Osa was to see what it had in other players lower on the depth chart, such as Otito Ogbonnia, Jay Toia and Jonathan Bullard.
With Clark having a full offseason to get adjusted to life as a Cowboy under Parker, there is a chance he could return to his Pro Bowl form, which would be the ideal scenario here, and maybe that version of Kenny is better than Osa?
But whether or not Dallas traded away the wrong player won't be known for another 12 months. If Clark plays well, and is the player we have seen in Green Bay, and Osa struggles, the Cowboys didn't make the wrong choice.
Conversely if Kenny struggles and Osa plays well, Dallas might have egg on its face.
But the cap relief, plus the chance to get another draft pick, is what led the Cowboys to move on from Osa.
Time will tell if it was the right choice.
