The Cowboys’ offseason focus is shifting to George Pickens’ price tag, Rashan Gary’s impact and a quietly important battle for QB2 behind Dak Prescott.
Dallas Cowboys offseason talk keeps circling the same pressure points, but that doesn’t make them any less important.
As the NFL Draft gets closer, the biggest Cowboys questions still revolve around George Pickens’ future, Rashan Gary’s role in the new defense and whether a real backup quarterback fight is about to unfold behind Dak Prescott.
The Pickens discussion got louder after the wide receiver market jumped again. Dallas already knows CeeDee Lamb is locked in as a top-paid target, but Pickens is now in line for an even more interesting contract conversation if he delivers another strong season.
He won’t be paid like the very top of the market, but every massive receiver deal raises the floor a little. That matters for a Cowboys team trying to keep two high-level weapons together.
Pickens still has to prove last season wasn’t a one-year blip.
The talent has never been the issue. It’s always been consistency, maturity and whether a team can trust him over the long haul. If he gives Dallas another productive year and stays out of trouble, his value will only keep climbing.
On defense, Rashan Gary could end up being one of the most meaningful additions of the offseason.
Dallas didn’t bring him in just to fill space. His versatility gives the front seven more flexibility, whether he’s rushing off the edge, setting the edge against the run or moving around the formation. That kind of piece is important in a defense expected to mix looks more often.
The reunion with Kenny Clark adds another layer. Those two already know how to work together, and that familiarity could help Dallas generate pressure faster than expected. Gary may not be a headline-grabbing superstar, but he looks like a foundational part of what the Cowboys want to become.
Then there’s the backup quarterback spot, which may be more open than people think. Sam Howell brings real experience and has started NFL games. Joe Milton still offers intriguing upside, but upside alone doesn’t secure QB2 jobs.
That competition won’t dominate headlines like Pickens or the draft, but it could matter more than fans realize. In an offseason full of repeat storylines, Dallas still has some very real decisions ahead.
