Pickens has signed the tag, but as the mandatory workouts continue, he's not been spotted.
Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens has signed his franchise tag, but the last time we checked, he has yet to be present at any of the team's workouts at The Star.
Now, before you go and smash the panic button, all practice right now is voluntary, so Pickens doesn't have to be in attendance ... although CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott were.
But still, there are some who think that Pickens, despite signing his franchise tag, could choose to hold out of the offseason program and absorb the fines in order to get a long-term deal.
Now, I don't think Pickens will forfeit money that way, as the Cowboys could fine him heavily, but until he shows up at practice, participates, and doesn't do a Micah Parsons, this will always be on fans' minds.
But what does his quarterback think?
Dak was asked at the Cowboys' annual Reliant Home Run Derby about Pickens.
"I've just showed George my support," Prescott said via The Athletic's Jon Machota. "The guy that I know George is, obviously, he's signed the tag, so when he has to be there and be ready to play, he's going to be there.
"He's a hell of a talent, we've thrown this offseason, so I'm comfortable where he's at, and excited for when he gets into the building and get rolling."
If we read between the lines here, we can get a sense for what Dak is insinuating with Pickens.
He won't be at voluntary workouts, but once the mandatory ones begin, he'll be there. And once the regular season kicks off - we now have that full schedule - the receivers and the QB will be in a groove together.
June 16 is the first checkpoint to see where Pickens is with signing his tag, as the Cowboys have mandatory minicamp, and if George shows up and practices, that will have Cowboys Nation exhaling.
But if he doesn't, and is then subject to fines, that creates a whole situation that will be headline news for Dallas, and not in a good way.
Dak has a feel for what Pickens will do, and he seems confident that No. 3 will be there when he needs to be, and the fact that Prescott is "comfortable" with where George is in terms of his football is also a good sign.
Still, we eagerly await seeing what transpires on June 16, because that will set the tone for the entire offseason.
