Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens has had a superb 2025 season, and one that will see him get rewarded with some form of a new contract.
The easiest path is the franchise tag, which is roughly $28 million APY in 2026.
That gives Pickens the pay increase he wants, and the Cowboys get another year to evaluate George.
But one thing we know about the Cowboys (Jerry Jones) and high-level contracts is that one, they are rarely done quickly, and two, it is never smooth sailing.
So, Pickens, who has the same agent as Micah Parsons, David Mulugheta, is set to enter his first contract negotiation with Jerry this offseason.
And Dak Prescott, who has dealt a lot with Jerry over the years, gave George some advice on what is coming down the pipeline.
“Just don't let it get personal,” Dak said. “This is business. Both sides are going to want negotiations. Honestly, me and Jerry's wasn't pretty at all, right? When two sides are trying to agree, you're not going to want to see each other's differences, or you can't see each other's differences. But the moment you get to a contract, you shake hands, and you got to let all that go.
"We did that. So it's the same mindset going into these things. Things are going to come up. Things aren't going to sit right. You're going to feel slighted when they give you a million or two less than whatever you said. It's just the business. Play the game, play back, but don't let it get personal.”
That's sound advice, Dak.
We know the saga with Micah and how Jerry let his money get mad. So it will be interesting to see how this negotiation plays out.
Also, how quickly will Dallas place the tag on Pickens? Or will it try to get a long-term deal done first, and if that can't be agreed upon, then the tag will be forthcoming?
Either way, this won't be a quick solution.
So, expect this to be another offseason headlined by a Cowboys contract saga.
But heed Dak's words Mr. Pickens,. This is business. Don't let it get personal.
Because when it does? Well, we have seen the nasty outcomes.
