The Cowboys practiced against the Rams in California, and Dak liked the work his group got through.
The Dallas Cowboys' joint practice against the Los Angeles Rams is in the books, as Brian Schottenheimer's team gears up for their first preseason game.
It was seen as a big test for the revamped defense under Christian Parker, with much of the focus on that side of the ball...but the offense had something to prove as well.
The tackle positions with Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele were a watch, as was the dynamic duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Plus, how did the group fare in the red zone? A big bugaboo from last season.
Dak Prescott threw a handful of touchdowns against the Rams' secondary; Pickens made plays, so too did Lamb; Jaydon Blue fumbled; and UDFA tight end Dalton Trigg hauled in a touchdown pass from Sam Howell.
The offense had its moments, so too the Rams' defense, as both sides gave as good as they got, according to those in attendance.
But what did Dak think about how the unit fared?
“First time going against another jersey, another team, I thought it was good," Prescott said. "Is it quite where we wanted to be? No, not necessarily. But started off hitting the run, so some things were physical. It's hard to tell exactly what a gain is when guys aren't going to the ground.
"But then as it developed, getting into the red zone, even the two-minute there, getting called down where it looked like it's right at the sticks, just part of practice, but ultimately felt good about it."
"Felt good about it'' will work as the overall four-word summary here.
The red zone work was where all the juice was for the Cowboys.
Dak reportedly threw four TDs and it was who he threw then to that is noticeable.
Lamb managed two, while KaVontae Turpin and Brevyn Spann-Ford, who was listed as TE2 on the unofficial depth chart, managed the other.
The run game was reportedly in good order early on, but the field-stretching ability of the offense was limited by L.A.'s defense, so there are clearly some things to work on.
However, based on what we have heard and seen, the offense is in a good spot at this point in the offseason, with the Seattle Seahawks up on the schedule in the first preseason game.
