Cowboys safety Markquese Bell faces felony drug charges. His future with the team and the NFL hangs precariously in the balance.

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys safety Markquese Bell was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and marijuana on Friday, according to Collin County jail records.

The arrest was made Friday by Prosper police.

Bell, 27, could be subject to punishment from the NFL under the CBA and its Personal Conduct Policy.

The Cowboys are reportedly aware of the arrest.

In Texas, the possession of a controlled substance is a felony, while the marijuana possession is classified as a Class B misdemeanor.

Bell, 6-3 and 205 and a product of Florida A&M, is entering the second year of a three-year, $9 million deal. He has spent the last four seasons with the Cowboys after making the team as a UDFA in 2022.

He is a core special-teamer who last year did get three starts in 17 games.

The Cowboys have Malik Hooker as an incumbent starting safety and in free agency signed Arizona's Jalen Thompson, who they believe has star quality. Dallas is seemingly parting ways with veteran Donovan Wilson amid rumors that in this month's NFL Draft they could land Ohio State star Caleb Downs.
