Overshown has had his injury troubles of late, but we know the talent is there, and in 2026, he's determined to show it.
Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown must have been wondering what he did to deserve such rotten injury luck to begin his NFL journey.
The heat-seeking missile, since being drafted in 2023, has played just 19 games (17 starts) as knee injuries have taken their toll.
Prior to his latest in 2024, Overshown was on an All-Pro trajectory, as in 12 games, he notched 5.0 sacks, 90 combined tackles, five quarterback hits, eight tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and an interception returned for a touchdown (that insane play vs. the Giants).
So, we know the talent is there; the problem is that he's never really been on the field long enough for us to truly appreciate the weapon he is.
Well, 2026 could be the year.
For the first time in his career, DeMarvion is entering an offseason fully healthy, so you can imagine the expectations being placed on him.
Last season, he made his comeback from that horror knee injury and played six games. He wasn't influential at all, but we could look back at that span as a key piece of his rehab as he managed to get proper football under his belt.
And now, he's ready to hit the ground running under Christian Parker.
Speaking at the Cowboys' annual Reliant home run derby, Overshown knows what he can bring when he's healthy.
"Biggest blessing I can ask for," Overshown said via Jon Machota of The Athletic. "I feel like everybody knows when I'm healthy, I'm one of the best linebackers in the league. That's not to toot my own horn, but the film and the stats speaks for itself when I'm on the field. Being healthy is the number one way to stay on the field and be able to do what I do.
"The fact that I get to go through the offseason as a healthy man and coming into training camp healthy, I feel like people ain't seen my best yet so I know it's going to be one of my best years."
Overshown looms as a key piece for Parker, as the Dallas linebacker unit is perhaps the biggest question mark right now.
But DeMarvion, along with Dee Winters, Shemar James, Jaishawn Barham, and others, there could be something brewing.
However, we know that Overshown is the centerpiece of that unit, and if he can have a full training camp, avoid any missteps, and be ready to go come Week 1, I get the feeling he could be the biggest change for the defense.
Yes, we have Caleb Downs, Rashan Gary, Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark, but D-Mo is the barometer.
And in 2026, he's hell bent on making it his best season to date.
