Overshown has had an injury-riddled start to his career, and now that he's in a contract year, he's determined to let his football do the talking.
If there's one thing that Dallas Cowboys fans would like to see in 2026, it's a fully healthy DeMarvion Overshown for 17+ games.
The stud linebacker has seen the inside of the treatment room more than the field during his three years in the league.
Having played just 19 games since being drafted, Overshown in 2024 was a star on the rise until his devastating knee injury halted his progress. He returned in 2025 in the second half of the year and managed six games.
Now, Agent 0 is entering Year 4, Overshown knows that time is running out to prove he deserves another contract with the Cowboys.
The production has been there when he's been on the field, but the best ability for any player is availability, and Overshown hasn't had it often enough.
Naturally, Dallas will use that in upcoming contract talks, as Overshown now has David Mulugheta as his agent, which adds another twist.
We often see players' focus get shifted when they are in a contract year, and they don't put their best foot forward on the field.
But speaking at the Reliant home run derby, Overshown made it clear where his focus is in 2026.
"It's football for me," Overshown said. "Contract year or not, I have to come out here and play my best. I was going to go out there and ball regardless. That's for other people to really figure out, I'm going to go do my part, make sure I'm on the field for 17-plus [games] and the money will take care of itself."
When fully healthy, we know the type of player Overshown is.
A sideline-to-sideline monster who can also moonlight as a heat-seeking missile as a pass rusher, as evidenced by his 5.0 sacks in 2023 from his linebacker spot under Dan Quinn.
But I think Cowboys fans would settle for Overshown being a consistent presence on the field for Christian Parker in 2026 as he looks to take his game to a new level in a contract year.
Overshown has all the tools to become an elite player in the NFL, but his body has to do its part as well.
The mentality is there, but his body has let him down, and hopefully, in 2026, both can finally work in unison.
