The dust is beginning to settle on the Dallas Cowboys' selection of Christian Parker to be their next defensive coordinator.
Not many likely knew of Parker before his name was mentioned as a candidate weeks ago.
But looking at the reaction of the hire from people in the know and close to the organization tells us the Cowboys have a person of head-coach caliber, seen as one of the brightest defensive minds in football.
Does that equate to success? Not exactly, but the Cowboys, as they did with Klayton Adams, have gone the younger route.
Now attention turns to the offseason and how the Cowboys' defensive deficiencies will be addressed.
First will be free agency, and then the draft.
And it is here where the Cowboys hold two first-round picks, provided they don't part ways with one in free agency.
So, who could the Cowboys go with at No. 12?
For Sports Illustrated's Daniel Flick, LSU corner Mansoor Delane comes to The Star.
"Dallas gave up a league-leading 251.5 passing yards per game and intercepted only six passes," Flick wrote. "Delane has tremendous instincts and route recognition—he’s often in-phase and in position to disrupt throwing windows.
"Delane can play man or zone and press or off, thanks to his intelligence and athleticism. He should be a Day 1 starter."
This isn't the first time Delane has been mocked in Dallas, either.
If he were to be the Cowboys' pick, then fans might have reason to be rather excited, and it's all to do with Parker.
During his time in Denver and Philadelphia, he helped three players, Patrick Surtain III, Cooper DeJean, and Quinyon Mitchell, become All-Pros at their position.
Surtain is widely regarded as one of the league's best corners, and Mitchell and DeJean have risen to prominence under Parker in Philadelphia's defense.
In Delane, Dallas gets a physical corner with a high football IQ and the athleticism to make an immediate impact on defense.
There's no Trevon Diggs, and with DaRon Bland having issues with his foot, and Shavon Revel Jr. still working his way back from his long injury layoff, Delane could, in theory, be a starter come Week 1.
So the selection of Delane is enticing.
Not just because he's one of the best corners in college football, but because of what he could become under Parker.
