Overshown is seen as the one who will wear the green dot for Parker, but do the Cowboys need another veteran for just in case?

The Dallas Cowboys' linebacker spot is still creating a lot of discussion as OTAs continue at The Star.

With the Cowboys having DeMarvion Overshown as the green dot of the defense, at least right now, Agent Zero appears locked in and ready to be the leader Parker needs for his defense.

Overshown has stated he used to be a mike linebacker, but once he made it to the NFL with Dallas, he wasn't asked to do that.

So, do we all have the utmost confidence that Overshown can be the leader this defense needs? Plus, being the one to set the front, communicate with his teammates, and make sure everyone is lined up correctly? Maybe.

And that brings us to an interesting talking point: Does Dallas need an insurance policy at linebacker?

And by that we mean a veteran who can be a safety net if things go wrong?

Former Cowboys scout Bryan Broaddus was on 105.3 The Fan, and he thinks Dallas should go after veteran free agent linebacker Bobby Wagner.

"I'd still go get Bobby Wagner to play that mike linebacker," Broaddus said. "Because at practice they were trying to figure all that out. How much do you trust [Shemar] James, [Jaishawn] Barham to be the guy?

"We all love Overshown, go get Bobby Wagner. Even if you don't use Bobby Wagner initially, you have, say you want to go ahead and start Overshown, great, but you have Bobby Wagner there if something were to go wrong. It could be injury, it could be that Overshown's not a really good mike linebacker, that he's better playing the weak linebacker."

That is a sound thought, and the Cowboys don't have a veteran presence in that linebacker room. Dee Winters and Overshown loom as the ones at the top of the depth chart, but Wagner could be the one to come in and settle everything down.

As Broaddus said, even if you don't need to use Wagner, he can be a sounding board for the linebacker room, and what better player to have teach the young core than one of the best of the last decade?

We know it wouldn't cost much - surely not as much as the Jordyn Brooks trade idea being pushed by our Mike Fisher - and Brian Schottenheimer has already revealed how much he loves Wagner this offseason.

And as we write this, "Wags'' is still out there as a free agent.

The Cowboys appear determined to move forward with their plan at linebacker, but having Wagner in the wings if things go south isn't a bad move.
