The Dallas Cowboys aren’t being subtle about it — linebacker is a priority. With questions lingering about depth, durability and long-term answers in the middle of the defense, Dallas has been doing its homework at the 2026 NFL Combine.
One intriguing name now on their radar: Texas A&M linebacker Scooby Williams.
Multiple reports confirm the Cowboys met with Williams in Indianapolis this week, and the interest makes sense.
Williams, 6-2 and 230 pounds, brings the kind of size and edge that defensive coordinators crave. After transferring to College Station, he battled through injuries but still flashed serious upside.
In 2024, he logged 43 total tackles, four pass breakups and his first career interception while earning a solid 70.0 defensive grade from Pro Football Focus.
Even more eye-opening? His 87.3 pass-rush grade - an elite number that hints at disruptive potential.
Last season, despite appearing in only six games, Williams totaled 19 tackles, a sack and another interception. When healthy, he showed burst, physicality and an ability to affect the quarterback - traits that translate on Sundays.
For Dallas, that versatility matters. The Cowboys are widely projected to explore linebacker early in the draft, with Ohio State’s Sonny Styles frequently mocked to them in Round 1. But roster building doesn’t stop on Day 1.
If Williams slides into the middle rounds - or even into late Day 2 - he becomes exactly the type of calculated swing teams like Dallas love to take.
He won’t enter the NFL with a spotless resume. Durability questions will follow him through draft weekend. But teams also see the flashes ... fluid movement in space, strong downhill instincts and the ability to pressure from multiple alignments.
In today’s NFL, linebackers who can cover, blitz and thump still hold real value.
Christian Parker understands the importance of stabilizing the second level of the defense. Meeting with Williams at the combine signals genuine curiosity - not just a box-checking interview.
If Scooby Williams tests well and interviews as strongly as expected, don’t be surprised if the Cowboys circle back. Dallas needs tone-setters at linebacker. Williams has shown he can be one ... when he’s on the field.
And sometimes, upside is worth the gamble.
