With Dak Prescott under fire and the offense stagnant after an embarrassing Lambeau Field collapse, Jerry Jones faces mounting pressure to terminate Brian Schottenheimer’s struggling tenure.
The Dallas Cowboys are officially in trouble after the Sunday night 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, in which head coach Brian Schottenheimer's offense looked lost. ...
Which has some in Cowboys Nation wondering whether the next "loss'' should be the job held by the head coach.
With the Cowboys' once high-octane offense seemingly nowhere to be seen, the play- calling was predictable, the Packers clearly got a bead on what Dak Prescott's cadence was, and in truth, Schottenheimer was outcoached yet again.
And we aren't even talking about the inability of the coaching staff to help Dak with the blitz.
Dak was either running for his life or getting lit up with several roughing the passer calls going Prescott's way as No. 4 was repeatedly picking himself up off the turf.
It adds up to a 2-4 record this year and an overall two-year mark of 9-13-1 and two questions:
Could owner Jerry Jones fire Brian Schottenheimer?
Should owner Jerry fire Schotty''?
Said the head coach himself: "We've got to clean it up. Lost two games in a row, haven't played well, got to take a hard look at it, and that starts with me."
Indeed.
It was another game where the Cowboys were outcoached and offered no solutions to the problems that the defense gave them.
We lost count of how many curl routes were run short of the sticks; the run game with Javonte Williams was seemingly forgotten about to the extent that we wonder what the point of Williams traveling with the team was.
Let's not forget that Schottenheimer is leading an offense with an All-Pro receiver, a Pro Bowl receiver, a top-10-ish quarterback, a star left guard, two first-round picks, and a running back coming off a career year.
Plus, Dak had 54 pass attempts, which isn't a way to live in the NFL.
The calls for Schottenheimer to be moved on are now deafening.
I'll preface this by saying we all know it's not Jerry Jones' style to fire a coach mid-season, but how many more performances like this can he stomach?
Dallas is an undisciplined team, not executing, and lacking real changes in the game to give their team a fighting chance.
It was another game that you walk away from knowing the Cowboys were thoroughly out-smarted and it wasn't even close.
All of this, mind you, the Cowboys were coming off a 10-day break. So it isn't like last week, when it was a short turnaround.
The coaching staff had ample time to put together a plan of attack, and what happened?
"The Greatest Offense There Is'' punted on its first two possessions as it looked like the entire offense lacked confidence. And it had only scored seven points until under a minute left in the fourth quarter when Dak tossed a meaningless TD to Ryon Flournoy.
If the calls for change after last week were loud, I hate to think what it will be like in the next 24-48 hours.
Because after six weeks, and holding a 2-4 record, Schottenheimer's seat isn't just warm; it's an inferno.
