Williams becomes the latest Cowboy to have his future sorted as a key piece of Christian Parker's defense put pen to paper.
The Dallas Cowboys have moved very differently this offseason is nearly every facet of their operation, but the biggest difference has been how the franchise has handled contracts.
Tyler Smith, Javonte Williams, Brandon Aubrey and George Pickens were all done quietly and efficiently, something very different from previous seasons.
But now we have another, as defensive tackle Quinnen Williams has signed a three-year, $105.9 million extension with the Cowboys.
Again, no fuss, no nothing, just working in the shadows to get a deal done.
It is worth noting that Williams' agent, Nicole Lynn, was seen in Oxnard, and then two days later, her client had a new deal.
And Cowboys COO Stephen Jones detailed why the deal was done.
"Usually if you have two people wanting to get something done, it can get done. ... Every deal is different," Jones said. "You just hit certain bumps in the road where things don't. It's not because we don't want to. ... We're always in the mode if it's the right situation to do a deal."
Jones added that the move "solidifies that that he's a part of our foundation here for the next five years.''
So that takes care of one of the best defensive tackles in football, and given how often we have heard of the "salary cap pie," naturally, the next order of business is how the Cowboys can sign George Pickens long-term next offseason.
Let's be clear: Dallas can, if it wants to, and the Williams extension, depending on how it is structured, could free up significant cap space both this year and next.
Meaning the Cowboys could go free agent shopping and still have funds to sign Pickens to a long-term deal.
But does Jones hope that a Pickens negotiation is as easy as Quinnen's?
"I'm worried about this season," he said. "To tell you the truth. I want to go win some games."
But make no mistake, while Williams' deal is excellent for all the right reasons, under market value, the franchise getting out ahead of a deal, all eyes are on Pickens.
We know it will be an expensive exercise to sign George long-term, but the Cowboys clearly have a vision for contracts this offseason, and the latest domino has fallen, in what has been a superb string of deals for Dallas.
