The Cowboys are reportedly interested in Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

It is no secret that the Dallas Cowboys might be in the market for a new defensive coordinator this offseason, with Matt Eberflus struggling to get his defense playing good football.

And we aren't even at Week 18 yet, and the "reports' ... er, "rumors" are already popping up regarding a replacement.

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores has seen his name thrown up as a possible option for weeks, and now here comes PFT's Mike Florio with a report connecting Flores to Dallas.

Florio states that the Cowboys "could" be "lurking" for Flores while suggesting that Dallas is "firmly in place'' to hire the coach.

Then Florio tries to advance the ball as he writes, "The increasing chatter in league circles is that the Cowboys will be firmly in play for Flores. ... The Vikings, we’re told, are keenly aware of the possibility."

So, is this a real possibility? Or is this just "chatter?"

And is "chatter'' just a sneaky way for an outlet to start a rumor and type up an attention-grabbing headline even though it doesn't really have a source?

Our own Mike Fisher has his thoughts on this latest rumor.

"Here come the Brian Flores to Cowboys stories," Fish posted on X. "Great idea! Rumor created by the media? Or fact based on Dallas source? You know the answer."

Time will tell if there is any truth to this "report'' ... though we will say that there is little to be lost by PFT tossing this stuff against the wall to see if it'll stick.

If the Cowboys never connect with Flores? PFT can blame team owner Jerry Jones.

If the Cowboys do connect in any way with Flores? PFT can claim it "broke the story.''

It's a tricky way for Mike Florio to be an "insider.''

The truth is, at this early stage, the Cowboys are going to be linked to a multitude of possible candidates, as is the case every year.

From where we sit? We can endorse the idea of Dallas firing Eberflus and interviewing Flores and others. But at this early stage, we're not going to pretend we know that a Flores-Cowboys connection is "firmly in play.''
