The NFL legend failed field sobriety tests during an overnight traffic stop in his home state, leading to a citation following a late-night arrest in Milwaukee.
FRISCO, Texas - Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS Sports lead voice Tony Romo was arrested overnight in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating while under the influence, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
Wisconsin-based media outlets have obtained and released the arrest-and-detention report.
In that report, it is stated that Romo was stopped Thursday around 8 p.m. while traveling southbound on Interstate 43 and that he did not fare well when administered standard field sobriety tests.
Romo, 46, was then taken into custody for OWI, then booked and released.
In Wisconsin, a first-offense such as this is generally considered a civil offense, and not a criminal charge. The citation typically carries a fine ranging from $150 to $300.
Romo grew up in Burlington and still has family in Wisconsin.
Romo was a four-time Pro Bowler in Dallas, where he grew to become a beloved and iconic figure. ... before retiring after the 2016 season and then moving into the No. 1 chair for CBS’ lead NFL broadcast team alongside pal Jim Nantz.
Romo is also a revered figure in his hometown as the first Burlington High School student to receive the honor of being named all-state in three sports: football, basketball, and golf.

Romo, who according to police paperwork was given a court date of Sept. 21, resides in the Dallas area.
