Dallas boasts a top-tier offense, yet its most explosive weapon is just warming up. Coach Schottenheimer warns defenses that one lapse could trigger a massive breakout performance.
The Dallas Cowboys' offense, through the first four weeks of the season, has been one of the NFL's best.
Averaging 30.5 points per game (second-best), averaging 3.39 points per drive, ranking fifth all time among offenses since 2000, and having only punted seven times, the fewest in the NFL, the unit is good, folks.
And the scary part is George Pickens has yet to really hit his stride.
In four games, Pickens has 18 receptions for 225 yards and doesn't have a touchdown yet, so you can make the case that George has been a little slow out of the blocks.
Granted, CeeDee Lamb hasn't, because defenses are shifting coverage to Pickens to take him away, and 88 is feasting for 498 yards and 4 TDs on 37 receptions.
So, defenses are taking away Pickens and Lamb is feasting.
But head coach Brian Schottenheimer has issued a little warning to those who think that this will be a common theme for George in 2026.
"I think if you look at George last year, I don't think he was putting up the insane numbers even till like week four, five, six," Schottenheimer said. "George easily could have had three catches for 180 yards in that (Houston) game. But what I'm gonna say about George is if you blink, he gonna put up 150. And there's no doubt about that one.
"But they try to take CeeDee Lamb away, even if they don't, George can beat double coverage, he can beat triple coverage."
Schottenheimer is right, Pickens last season didn't surpass 68 yards in a game for the first three weeks (did have 2 TDs, though), but in the overtime tie against the Green Bay Packers, he had 134 yards and 2 TDs.
After that, George took off.
But now that Lamb is fully healthy, he can be a menace on the other side of the field with the attention all on George, and we saw against the Houston Texans that even when he is covered, Dak Prescott is still going to look for him with that 53-yard bomb in the second half, the fire starter for Dallas.
So yes, Pickens hasn't set the world on fire, but he's been nothing but consistent this year, just not to the level he was last year.
But make no mistake, George still has that demon in him; it's just yet to reveal itself often in 2026.
