When the Dallas Cowboys fell behind by three TDs early in the second quarter to the Philadelphia Eagles, you would have been hard-pressed to find a person who thought the team could seriously mount a comeback to win 24-21, as did indeed happen on Sunday.
But that Cowboys sideline never lost belief.
We heard post-game from Brian Schottenheimer and Dak Prescott, both of whom spoke on the belief in the offense and what it could do if it stopped getting in its own way.
And look what happened when they didn't. They scored 24 unanswered points to claim an unlikely win.
But if we are being truthful, there was likely some thought that maybe the 21-0 deficit was a little too much, right?
Not for tight end Jake Ferguson.
“Truthfully, yeah, there was really never a doubt,” Ferguson said. “There was a point where it was 21-0, and Dak was walking down the sideline, and he's like, we're still in this, we've been here before, we've done this stuff, we've put up 21 like this.
"I think that whole vibe from the offense, at least from what I felt when I was down there, there was never a doubt. We knew what we're capable of. We knew that if our defense gave us a couple stops, we were able to do what we do.”
That belief powered what was one of the best comebacks in recent memory, and what's more, it kept 5-5-1 Dallas' season alive, which made it that much sweeter.
Play by play, both sides of the ball made plays, so too special teams as each phase did their part in a stunning second-half turnaround that made the Eagles look second rate.
Tough defensive series that kept Saquon Barkley quiet, George Pickens was a demon, again posting another 140+ yard game, and special teams coming up with a fumble. Everything worked together.
And as far as Ferguson saying the team never stopped believing, well, we'll just have to take his word for it.
