Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said all the right things regarding free agency, but he's got to follow through.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said all the right things about the approach to free agency for the franchise.

With a clear desire from Jerry and the Cowboys to be more active and "spend more in free agency than we have," Dallas should be ready to loosen the purse strings.

Of course, spending more than in previous seasons is rather easy given the Cowboys hardly spent at all in the last couple of free agency classes.

But at least from Jerry's perspective, there appears to be a change in approach.

However, I offer this.

The harder you push yourself to do something, like be aggressive in free agency, the harder it is to back out.

And former NFL player and now analyst, Willie Colon, wants Jerry to actually be proactive in free agency, not just be all talk.

"Dallas doesn't need to go shopping, they need to go hunting," Colon said. "The problem with Jerry is, you can't be fake aggressive, you got to be aggressive. If there's somebody you love, and you have to give up draft capital, like a Maxx Crosby, then put your money where your mouth is.

"Go get your guy. Attack this window, be smart, obviously, you have a lot of options. Choose wisely."

Colon is right. Dallas fans don't want Jerry to be fake aggressive as he and the franchise have been in previous years -- be proactive.

If Maxx Crosby is the player you want. Go get him. I wouldn't give up pick 12 to get it done, but you get the idea.

Attacking free agency and filling as many roster holes as possible is a great path for the Cowboys to go down.

Why? Because then, when the draft comes around, it allows the Cowboys to go BPA (best player available) and add talent to whichever position that player plays.

Many know the Cowboys' approach over the last handful of years has been anything but aggressive. But this offseason, there appears to be a noticeable shift.

Jerry has said all the right things about being aggressive.

But now the time has come to actually do it. Will Jerry follow through? Your guess is as good as mine.
