The Cowboys signed Malik Davis from the practice squad, and that spells trouble for Jaydon Blue.

It hasn't been the best of times for Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue, with the former Texas Longhorn struggling with consistency both on and off the field.

As a result, Blue's snaps on game day have been limited, and when he has gotten on the field, he hasn't produced in the way Dallas had hoped, with a fumble against the Denver Broncos one of his last acts.

Jaydon was a healthy scratch for the Week 11 game against the Las Vegas Raiders as practice squad back Malik Davis was preferred, and he rushed for 20 yards on four carries.

And now, the Cowboys have done something that might signal that Blue's time as Javonte Williams' backup is over, at least for now.

On Saturday, Dallas signed Davis to the active roster, meaning that right now, heading into the Philadelphia Eagles game in Week 12, he will be the backup to Javonte, not Blue.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has preached his desire for players to be multiple, meaning to play several positions. Blue, right now, is a one-trick pony as a running back, and he doesn't impact other areas such as special teams.

So, where Blue goes from here will be an interesting storyline to follow.

Yes, it has been tough sledding, and there have been positive moments for the rookie, but consistency has alluded him, and his game-day status has suffered as a result.

And now with Davis being signed to the 53-man roster, his already small number of snaps will likely further diminish.

The NFL is a tough gig, and Blue is finding that out right now.

But don't get it twisted, all is not lost, and let's not forget, it is his rookie season, so by no means does this spell the end for him in Dallas; it is just that right now, Davis is a better option for the offense than Blue.

And it is up to Jaydon to prove to the coaching staff that he offers more than Davis.

Which at this point in time, he doesn't.
