There have been a lot of people giving their take on Parker's defense, but when it comes to franchise legend Darren Woodson, yeah, we listen intently.
It is no secret that the Dallas Cowboys defense appears to be moving differently this offseason compared to last.
With Christian Parker now taking over the unit from Matt Eberflus, there was a lot to clean up with Dallas having one of the worst defenses in football.
Constant blown assignments, miscommunication, failure to get lined up, and then giving up points at will (30.1 per game), it was a disaster.
So, Parker came to The Star looking to clean up the mess Eberflus and his staff left him with. With OTAs now done and dusted, we have got a glimpse into what Parker is like as a coach and the scheme he will be running.
We've heard from players like CeeDee Lamb, who called Parker's defense "annoying" to go against, and Dak Prescott state the defense makes it tough on him.
So that's a good start.
But they are offensive guys, what about defensive players? And perhaps, a Hall of Famer in waiting?
Former Cowboys safety Darren Woodson was a guest on the Doin Alright podcast with Voch Lombardi and former Dallas scout Bryan Broaddus and detailed what he's seen from Parker and the defensive unit as a whole.
“When I was just around Christian Parker and that defense just the other day, we got invited back, the former players came in and spent some time, I've heard a lot about the new defensive staff, what they're doing, we sat in a couple of meetings, and let me tell you, this is going to be a different team,” Woodson said.
“Now, I don't know what's going to happen, wins, losses, but they're building a foundation defensively that is so different from what it's been. This is not just casual. They're power thinking through processes, and they're taking their time. And I like it. I just think that there's a different atmosphere around that organization.”
So there has already been a big shift in how Parker approaches the defense, and the attention to detail has stood out to players at this early stage of the install.
And for Woodson to say there is something cooking under Parker, that should make all of us take notice.
Yes, Woody doesn't know if it'll translate to wins, but the simple fact that it appears there is a significant difference in how Parker and his staff are going about things should make fans hopeful of what the unit can be in 2026.
You'll be hard-pressed to find someone who understands more about defensive football than Woodson, and for him to notice the differences and like them, maybe even more stock should be put into what Parker is doing.
Now, the true tell-all will be how this defense fares under real NFL fire, so I'll hold my thoughts on what this defense can be in 2026 for now.
But if Woody is bullish, then so am I.
