Overton comes to The Star looking to make a name for himself in Christian Parker's scheme, and he's got ample motivation to do so.
New Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman LT Overton is ready to prove his worth as rookie minicamp gets set to begin at The Star.
Taken in the fourth round of the NFL Draft, Overton, who played his final two seasons at Alabama, is ready to be a key piece of the puzzle for Christian Parker's team.
But as a fourth-round selection, the outside perception is that he likely won't come in and start blowing people away...although he very well could.
Career highs in tackles for loss (6.0) and sacks (4.0) last season, Overton comes to The Star with a lot to prove.
But what is his best attribute that could see him be on the field earlier than expected?
"Definitely my run-stopping ability," Overton said. "I've put my pride on that ever since I stepped on campus at Alabama. "You're not going to be able to rush that passer unless you stop that run first.
"Not that just alone, but my power as well. I'm a big power rusher. love getting guys off their feet, be making them be able to move, anchor, and just quickness as well."
So, Overton will be looking to help stop what has been a huge issue for the Cowboys' defense over the past handful of years.
It didn't matter which coordinator it was, Dallas was great at takeaways, getting sacks, but the one thing that sunk them time and time again was the inability to stop the run.
We saw that at times last season, and now Overton comes to The Star, looking to play his part in stemming that tide.
Of course, he'll have the likes of Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams, who will also be tasked with helping stop the run for Parker's new-look defense.
But if you thought Overton was just a one-trick pony as a run-stuffing defensive tackle, well, you'd better think again.
One underrated aspect of his game that could catch offenses by surprise?
"Definitely pass rush," Overton added. "I see media sometimes, too. Everybody thinks I can't pass rush and that's okay. Like, that's why I like coming in underrated. People not really having them eyes on me until they quarterback getting sacked."
So, Overton isn't short on confidence as he embarks on his first NFL season, and how Parker deploys him will be a fascinating watch over the coming months.
Overton knows what he brings to the table. Time will tell if it's good enough to warrant snaps early in 2026.
