Dallas Cowboys All-Pro corner Trevon Diggs has been ramping up his potential return at The Star this week as Brian Schottenheimer's team gears up for a monster Week 14 clash tonight against the Detroit Lions.
Our own Mike Fisher liked what he saw from Diggs on the practice field, but the Cowboys clearly want to see more from Trevon, as he was officially ruled out of Thursday's game.
Granted, Diggs hasn't been back on the practice field for long, so a ramp-up period was always going to happen, but for Diggs to see the field again, what does he have to show the coaching staff before they pull the trigger on him returning?
"Just continue to do what he's been doing," Schottenheimer said on 105.3 The Fan. "He's unbelievable talent, and this is something that we're excited about, trying to get him back, and we'll see how that plays out. It's been a good start, but again, he is only one week back into it."
With DaRon Bland, Shavon Revel Jr., Caelen Carson and Reddy Steward all doing their bit for coordinator Matt Eberflus' unit over the past three weeks, Dallas' secondary has been much improved.
Schotty stated that a lot of that improvement stems from better communication, which he thinks has happened, in part due to the returns of Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson, two veteran pieces that help bring everything together.
Which makes the potential addition of an All-Pro corner rather tantalizing.
"We're playing really good defense right now, and you get a chance to add another tremendous player like Trevon, I think that's nothing but a big boost for you," Schottenheimer added. "I can't sing praises for him enough. He's doing everything he can to get back to where he's feeling and playing great."
So, Diggs is on the comeback trail as the Cowboys appear to be in resurgent form, and if they can slay the Lions and move to 7-5-1, with a "softer" schedule upcoming, having Trevon back could further solidify a unit that at one point this season was one of the worst units in football.
Trevon's return is close, folks.
