The Dallas Cowboys' run game was back with a bang in 2025, thanks to Javonte Williams' resurgence under Brian Schottenheimer and offensive coordinator Klayton Adams.
With Williams coming to The Star with a chip on his shoulder, he produced a career-best 1,201 rushing yards and 11 TDs as the prime mover for the Cowboys.
Now a free agent, the expectation is that Dallas re-signs Williams to a multi-year deal.
What that looks like is anyone's guess. Our own Mike Fisher suggests a deal of $6 or $7 million APY is justifiable.
But he did state Dallas wouldn't overpay, either.
With a "Thunder and Lightning" tandem of Williams and Jaydon Blue in the works for 2026, the Cowboys appear to be in good shape at running back, to an extent.
But what if they looked to get a solid veteran in to help Williams while Blue learns the ropes in Year 2?
PFF's Mason Cameron has named Dallas as the best landing spot for Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier.
"Although he’s been overshadowed by Bijan Robinson in Atlanta, Allgeier is quietly one of the NFL's most productive backs," Cameron wrote. "His 84.0 PFF rushing grade ranks top five among qualifying running backs over the last two seasons while also not fumbling a single time over that span.
"As a premier zone runner, Allgeier would fit in well with the Cowboys' inside zone-heavy scheme."
This is an interesting one.
Allegeier played second-fiddle to Bijan Robinson, and if Williams is retained by the Cowboys, he will likely do the same at The Star.
His 514 rushing yards from 143 attempts don't jump off the page, but his eight touchdowns do.
In a similar mold to Javonte, the powerful Allgeier is a compact, brutal force of nature at running back, and, like Williams, once he gets rolling, he can be difficult to stop.
The only thing is, would Dallas want two of the same style backs?
With Blue, he offers that lightning-quick home run threat, plus his speed and ability to weave in and out of traffic, all of which were on show in Week 18 against the New York Giants.
So if it's me, I'm passing on Tyler and taking my chances on a Jaydon Blue second-year leap in 2026.
