Cowboys scout SMU receiver Jordan Hudson, a fast, decorated late-round prospect. Can he bolster Dallas' thin wideout depth?
FRISCO - If it was meant to be a secret ...
The secret is out.
SMU Mustangs wideout Jordan Hudson hopes to be moving on to the NFL after a successful collegiate career.
That career included a season in Fort Worth with the TCU Horned Frogs, followed by three on the Hilltop with the Mustangs.
The Garland High School alum posted 14 catches for 174 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman in Fort Worth before entering the transfer portal and committing to SMU in 2023.
That year, he appeared in all 14 contests for the Mustangs and caught 30 passes for 425 yards and seven scores. His productivity stayed consistent in 2024 with 39 balls for 422 yards and five touchdowns.
As a senior this past year, he posted a career-high 766 receiving yards on 61 catches and six scores, and earned Third-Team All-ACC honors for his work.
So what's all the fuss about? No offense, but ... "Third-Team All-ACC honors''? I mean ...
Well, the Cowboys held a private dinner with Hudson, who clocked a 4.48 40-yard dash at the SMU pro day workout.
So there's that.
And Hudson was deemed enough of a prospect to have played in the 2026 Senior Bowl, where he posted 17 yards on a pair of receptions.
So what's the fit here?
The Cowboys could be in search of depth in the wideout room.
Boasting maybe the NFL's top one-two punch at wideout behind veterans CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, the position thins out a bit after that.
Quarterback Dak Prescott's top targets after Lamb and Pickens were Ryan Flournoy and KaVontae Turpin, with not much else behind them.
Dallas - which finished 7-9-1 last season and missed the postseason for the second straight season, and the first under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer - owns a bushel of late-round picks in the April NFL Draft. ...
- 5th round, 152nd
- 5th round, 177th (compensatory)
- 5th round, 180th (compensatory)
- 7th round, 218th
So, the "secret'' would be Dallas using a pick at the end of the draft to take a flier here.
The Cowboys owned a historically bad defense in 2025 that couldn't support their high-powered offense behind Prescott, Pickens and Lamb.
But that's all set to change in 2026 with the hiring of Christian Parker to lead the defense. The goal is to improve that side of the ball enough to support a potent offense ... and maybe, if SMU's Hudson is good enough and lucky enough, he gets a shot to be a part of next season.
