It is officially silly season in the NFL, and the trade ideas, sadly, keep coming.
The Dallas Cowboys, as we know, are a big brand, and with that comes any idea gaining major traction.
But sometimes the ideas are best left at just that.
We have seen several trade ideas involving the Cowboys that, for some, just aren't right, and we have just come across another.
The Cowboys took a flier on Joe Milton back in April of 2025 as Dak Prescott's backup, and while Milton is seen as a pure developmental player, some would have liked to see more.
In his preseason games, Joe was exactly what we thought he was -- a raw talent with a rocket for an arm. But as the preseason went on, Milton got more comfortable.
During the season, Joe hardly saw the field, only coming in to clean up in games Dallas was well beaten in, or like the Week 18 game that meant nothing.
So, entering this offseason, Milton, who now has Sam Howell to fight for the backup role, needs to show some improvement in his overall game.
The physical gifts aren't enough. He's got to play the position to a higher standard.
Milton is a raw talent, but isn't anything more than a potential backup at this early point in his career, which is why it is really odd to see him named as a trade candidate by Pro Football Network's Jacob Infante.
Is there a team that is willing to trade draft capital for a quarterback who hasn't shown he can be anything other than a backup at this point in his career? Maybe if there is an injury, and given Howell is on the roster, there isn't a reliance on Joe.
But Dallas parted ways with a seventh-round pick to acquire Joe from the New England Patriots. Could the Cowboys flip Milton for a sixth-round pick? Maybe.
However, again, is there any team that is in a position where they would actively seek a trade for Milton? Or better yet, would Dallas want to entertain that idea?
Milton, who does have a huge upside, still has two years left on his rookie contract, so the Cowboys, in theory, have two full seasons to see what sort of quarterback Joe can be under Brian Schottenheimer. They don't have to make any decision if they don't want to.
It is also worth noting that per Spotrac.com, Dak Prescott has an out in his contract in 2028, so that could coincide with a changing of the guard that maybe Milton is a part of (outlandish, I know).
As far as Joe being a trade option right now? I don't see it.
