It has been one offseason under Parker, but Williams has seen how much growth the unit has had in a couple of months.
It has been a long offseason for the Dallas Cowboys' defense, after so much turnover both on and off the field.
Christian Parker is in as the new defensive coordinator, and with a handful of new players as well, there have been a lot of moving parts.
Just getting everyone on the same page could be a little tough, but Parker has done that and done it quickly. Plus, getting his players to master his scheme in such a short amount of time isn't exactly easy either.
But from those very first OTA practices to the final ones in Oxnard, it has been a whirlwind for a defense that was one of the worst in football last season.
Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams has been one of the shining lights for Parker's defense, and even he has seen the huge strides the unit has made from the start of the offseason to where the group is now.
"It's been amazing," Williams said. "From where we started off in OTAs, where we at now, we got some fine-tuning things to clean up, some things to do, but I feel comfortable [in the] progressions that we made, the growth and the development that we have made, and to go into the right direction that we wanted to go into."
With Parker's defense garnering plaudits from every corner of the football world over the past few months, expectations are no doubt high for what the group could be.
I've always stated that being competent and average even (which, by the numbers, means the defense will have to be a touchdown a game better) is the bar to reach.
Anything over that would be superb.
With Williams, Kenny Clark, Otito Ogbonnia, Rashan Gary, Caleb Downs, DeMarvion Overshown, Jaishawn Barham, Shavon Revel Jr., Von Miller, and Jalen Thompson, that is a good nucleus to build from.
Exactly what to expect from the defense is a little unknown right now, but we expect the cement to be dry around Week 5, but that hasn't dampened expectations.
And after Quinnen's comments on how far the defense has come, now that it is all gas, no brakes towards the New York Giants in Week 1, hope and excitement are running wild among Cowboys Nation.
