Corbin was signed after a workout in Oxnard, and Schottenheimer revealed why the Cowboys signed him.
The Dallas Cowboys made a roster move with the signing of UFL standout Jashaun Corbin to add some more depth to the running back room.
A former rushing champion in the UFL, Corbin also had stops with several NFL teams, and now he lands with the Cowboys, and he is already off to a good start in Oxnard.
In his first practice, Corbin was seen making a big play and getting near the end zone as he broke through the first and second levels.
But with the running back room seemingly in good shape with Javonte Williams, Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah and Malik Davis, for some, it did seem a little odd to add another running back to what is now looking like a crowded room.
However, head coach Brian Schottenheimer detailed why the Cowboys signed Corbin a couple of days ago.
"We put Jashaun through a workout with a couple other backs, liked some of his quickness, some of his twitch, his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield," Schottenheimer said.
"Really excited about the competition in the running back room after Javonte with Jaydon, Phil, Malik and those guys. But we liked his twitch, and he's got some special teams value, which is a good thing. That's always going to be a big part of what we're doing."
So, everything that Schottenheimer wants in a running back, Corbin has.
Plus, with skins on the wall in the NFL, he has a good foundation behind him as he looks to make some noise in Oxnard.
His first practice already showcased his vision, the twitch Schotty talked about, and his ability to wriggle through traffic for a big gain, so this will be something to watch as the weeks roll on.
Also, Corbin has special teams value, which we know is a must for any player hoping to make the 53-man roster or the practice squad.
So, the UFL standout, after one practice, is already ticking a lot of boxes for the Cowboys.
Now, the preseason games will be a true definition of whether or not Corbin has a future in Dallas, as we have seen many players show out in camo, but come game-time, go missing.
Corbin might have been signed as a camp body, but maybe he might develop into something more.
