The Dallas Cowboys' search for the quarterback of Christian Parker's defense has heated up over the last 48 hours.
With there still being a glaring need for a veteran leader, several reports from ESPN's Todd Archer and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Nick Harris have the Cowboys looking at two interesting options.
Jordyn Brooks and Azeez Al-Shaair.
Two veteran studs, who would cost a little bit, but would instantly upgrade the position and give Parker the defensive leader he needs.
But as we know, they aren't the only options being floated around.
We have mentioned two others previously: Bobby Okereke and Bobby Wagner as free-agent options Dallas has to consider.
Unlike Brooks and Al-Shaair, they wouldn't require draft capital to get a move done.
But Brooks and Al-Shaair are levels above the two Bobby's.
And now Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox is the latest to link Wagner with a move to The Star.
"Wagner can still man the linebacker position better than most," Knox wrote. "This past season, he racked up 162 tackles, 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, four passes defended, and two interceptions.
"The Cowboys would also make sense for Wagner, given their need for defensive improvements and lack of quality linebacker depth."
The veteran, at the ripe age of 35, is still putting up numbers and still being productive.
Is he too old to do it one more time?
We get that debate point, but ...
Last season with the Washington Commanders, Wagner played all 17 games (played at least 16 in the last four years), posted 162 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, nine quarterback hits, and eight tackles for loss.
That is the sort of production Dallas needs.
But more than that, the Cowboys need a player who can wear the green dot.
Someone who can quarterback the defense, get everyone lined up correctly, and help put players in position to succeed on any given down -- that's Wagner.
Yes, Brooks or Al-Shaair would be excellent additions, but don't discount Wagner either.
A little older, sure, but he's still got juice in the tank.
There are several good options available to the Cowboys, and, in truth, any would be a welcome addition to Parker's defense.
