Dallas maneuvers through roster gymnastics to bring back Emari Demercado, aiming to spark a struggling ground game before a high-stakes Sunday night showdown against the Green Bay Packers.

The Dallas Cowboys have been busy during their mini-bye week trying to figure out exactly what went wrong in the first five weeks.

A 2-3 record and a defense that is woeful, Brian Schottenheimer stated there would be changes, some notable, others not.

And as the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night come into view, Dallas has been doing some wheeling and dealing to its roster.

After cutting running back Emari Demercado last week, the Cowboys have since moved on from offensive lineman Nick Leverett. ... temporarily. (He'll probably come back to the practice squad.)

And now Demercado is back, re-signing with the Cowboys, as a part of the 53-man roster.

It was surprising to see Demercado cut, but a move had to be made to facilitate Tyler Smith's return to the 53, and now he is back in Dallas, ready to pick up where he left off as a potential change-up for Javonte Williams.

This is a bit of roster gymnastics Dallas has pulled off, and it shows the faith they have in Emari as an offensive player.

Schottenheimer stated that changes would be coming, but none of them are earth-shattering, just moves to align the roster the way the head coach wants his team to look.

Whether this means Emari will displace Tyler Goodson, who does have some nice burst and acceleration, is unknown, but the Cowboys' running back room, outside of Javonte, is anything but settled.

With Demercado having previously worked with Klayton Adams in Arizona, it is natural for Dallas to want to see him on the field, but when he's been active, he hasn't done much.

Just 15 yards from five carries, with Goodson posting 34 yards from nine carries during his fleeting snaps.

So how this plays out is going to be interesting, as the Cowboys clearly see value in Demercado, and re-signing him surely means the franchise sees him as a good option to have behind Williams, despite being a similar style of back.

Either way, Dallas has changed a few things during this mini-bye, but it will hardly register as significant for Cowboys Nation.
