The legendary pass-rusher is launching a social media blitz to join his hometown team, but internal sources reveal a gap between Miller’s dreams and Dallas' current plans.
OXNARD, Calif. - It appears that veteran edge rusher Von Miller is at it again, trying to push for a move to the Dallas Cowboys.
With the Cowboys making it known of their desire to keep looking for roster help, Miller had been rather vocal on social media, posting pictures of himself in a Cowboys uniform, and even showing up here in Oxnard to watch a practice during this training camp.
Breadcrumbs, folks ... they're everywhere.
But they are largely being dropped by the legendary pass-rusher, not by the Cowboys themselves.
What's new here? Now we have Miller's latest push to be a Cowboy on his Instagram page.
Von posted an AI-generated picture of Dak Prescott holding the Super Bowl trophy, much like Michael Jordan did for the Chicago Bulls in that famous photo.
But that isn't the headline-grabber all by itself; aligned with that is what Miller added to the suggestive photo.
He posted "Why not?" as the caption for the pic, so translated, the meaning here is that DFW native Miller is doing a full-court press to try and make this Dallas dream a reality.
This is not the first time the idea has been broached. Indeed, back when Miller was among the very best in the business, Dallas flirted with the idea of bringing him "home.'' ... only to see him star with both the Rams and the Broncos.
But this time around?
Two sources inside the team tell me that while they have deep respect for what Miller, now 37, has accomplished in his NFL career, he's not a front-burner issue in terms of their pursuit of help ... which I'm told is otherwise very real.
The Cowboys pass-rush room is presently led by Rashan Gary, with promising second-year man Donovan Ezeiruaku and first-round rookie Malachi Lawrence being counted on as well.
So ... do the Cowboys need Miller?
He could serve as a bit-part player, and the experience and wisdom he could impart on this Dallas defense could be rather fruitful. ... in addition to the "eight sacks'' he believes he could contribute while "rolling out of bed,'' as he recently put it.
For now, however? Again, we are on record as predicting Dallas will be attempting to make a "big move'' to improve its roster in the coming weeks.
But ...
Miller's visit to Oxnard, it seems, was more about what he wants than what the Cowboys want ... clever social-media posts aside.
