The NFL offseason is in full swing after the Super Bowl, although for Brian Schottenheimer's Dallas Cowboys, it began weeks ago.
After a 7-9-1 season that ended with Dallas missing the playoffs, there is plenty to improve upon for Schotty's team.
Yes, there were good strides made, particularly from an offensive standpoint, as Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams, and George Pickens were the shining lights.
Defensively, though, Christian Parker has his work cut out to make Matt Eberflus' unit a competent defense in one offseason.
Granted, there will be ample amounts of cap space, plus two first-round draft picks to get things rolling in the right direction ahead of the 2026 season.
If the Cowboys approach free agency the right way, sign quality players to fill key gaps in the roster, which allows them to go BPA (best player available) in the draft, then who knows what 2026 could bring.
Although it appears DraftKings already has an idea about Schotty's Cowboys.
They have released their Super Bowl LXI odds, and Dallas has the 17th-best odds at the time of writing, at +3500, and has the seventh-best odds in the NFC.
So there isn't much hope for the Cowboys hoisting that Lombardi trophy in 2026.
But if we are being serious here, that is only because of what transpired in 2025, so the 17th-best odds are a fair reflection.
However, as we often say around here, "let the cake bake."
Let's revisit this in a couple of months, once NFL free agency and the draft are complete, and see what Dallas does to improve its team.
Because right now, you could argue the Cowboys are nowhere near a Super Bowl, and might even struggle to make the playoffs with their current team.
We know how often odds fluctuate in sports, and yes, it is really early to even have this as an option, but the Cowboys have a mountain of work to do before they can even be considered a true playoff contender. Let alone a Super Bowl contender.
But one thing is for certain: if the Cowboys have the 17th-best odds to win the Super Bowl now and they approach the offseason the right way, I guarantee you Schottenheimer's Cowboys won't be as low as 17th come Week 1 of the 2026 season.
