Guyton knew he needed to step up, and in the early stages of camp in Oxnard, he's done just that.
One of the biggest storylines to watch this offseason was the progression of Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton.
Originally seen to be in a battle with Nate Thomas for the starting role, Guyton quickly won that, as head coach Brian Schottenheimer stated Thomas needed to find more consistency before being able to enter that battle properly.
Guyton has stacked good days on top of good days in Oxnard, which is exactly what fans wanted to hear, as Dak Prescott's blindside needs its protector.
We have already heard from Tyler Smith on Guyton this offseason, stating, "I have the utmost confidence in Tyler, the body of work he's put forward, I feel like it's going to pay dividends and people are going to truly see who he is."
That's a big endorsement from Dallas' best offensive lineman.
But now we have right tackle Terence Steele, who, when asked about Guyton and how he's handled this offseason, gave a superb answer.
"Like a true pro," Steele said. "He could've gone a different way about it, but he did it the right way. I was with him a lot this offseason, and he put a lot of great work in. The dude works his butt off, so he came into this camp confident, and he's on his way.
"I'm very proud of him. I'm very, very proud of him."
So, the arrow for Guyton appears to be trending upward in Oxnard, and in truth, it had to.
Entering his third year as a first-round pick, now is the time when Guyton has to start excelling, and while it is only early in camp, Tyler has done everything needed of him to maybe ease those fears over the left tackle position, even if only a little.
With practices against the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints, we will get another chance to see Guyton's progression against some of the best pass rushers in football.
The questions aimed at Guyton, for some, will still be there until we see him in the regular season, but there is no doubt that the left tackle has improved in the way the coaching staff needed him to.
Now, he's got to keep that arrow trending upward.
