To some, there aren't too many reasons for Dallas Cowboys fans to enter the offseason with much hope and optimism.
They've seen this movie before.
But there are a couple of wrinkles here, and the biggest is Dallas' draft hand.
The other is that the Cowboys can have over $100 million in cap room with some simple contract restructures and saying goodbye to fringe players.
But yes, we've heard this before.
Dallas has money to spend in free agency, but it sits on its hands and ends up with bargain players, not top liners.
But is Jerry Jones' tune changing after another season without playoff football?
“If we have an opportunity in free agency, and if we have more than one opportunity, we're going to take advantage of the fact that we're in better shape today to play free agency than we thought we might be,” Jerry said.
Ok, we have heard that before.
But this time around, the Cowboys are armed with two first-round picks thanks to the Micah Parsons trade.
Dallas will first pick at No 12, and then likely around No. 20 depending on what the Green Bay Packers do in the playoffs.
But that's if Dallas has those picks when the draft rolls around.
“ We definitely are going to take advantage of these two No. 1s," Jerry added. "Don't think that we couldn't do some trade here with those two No 1's. So, all of the value that you get out of having these extra picks and having some flexibility under the cap, we're going to take advantage of it.”
Cowboys Nation is listening, Jerry.
He used phrases like, “Bust the budget’’ and “Finances are no object’’ and “We’re not saving it in our back pocket.”
Now, is this the truth? Or is it more "Southern-Fried, Little Rock, Door-to-Door Salesman'' gibberish?
Remember "All In''? That was baloney from two years ago.
Now comes "Bust the Budget.''
A skeptical Cowboys Nation is waiting.
