The Cowboys have long been thought to be a playground for those who like to bend the rules, but under Brian Schottenheimer, that might be changing.

One of the biggest concerns when the Dallas Cowboys traded for George Pickens was the receiver's fiery on-field nature.

We have all seen the highlights and snippets on social media of George being flagged for outbursts that hurt his team.

Most thought that would follow him to The Star.

But in truth, it didn't.

Yes, there were fleeting moments where the "Pittsburgh Pickens" showed his face, but they were few and far between.

Pickens would post 1,429 yards and 9 TDs from 93 receptions with the Cowboys to be a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career.

There were missteps, like the Las Vegas Raiders incident that saw head coach Brian Schottenheimer bench both Pickens and CeeDee Lamb for the first offensive series.

Now, with Pickens a free agent, there is a chance that he could be on the move if he can't agree on a deal with the Cowboys.

But for Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein, who was speaking with Andrew Siciliano on Inside Coverage, Dallas might be the best spot for Pickens.

"I did talk to an executive from another team and was like, I trust George more in Dallas than I trust him with a lot of teams, because I think Dak, the infrastructure, Schotty, will be able to keep him on the right path," Epstein said.

So that is a vote of confidence for the entire franchise, right?

What Schottenheimer is building, culture-wise (that word again), can keep Pickens on the straight and narrow.

But as we know, that won't be the deciding factor in whether Pickens stays around in 2026.

It will be the money.

Likely to be franchise-tagged at roughly $28 million APY, the Cowboys, as Epstein points out, will have to figure out their salary cap pie.

"This year, he was more productive than CeeDee Lamb, and he had a higher ceiling this season than Lamb, so then you have to say, how do we make all of these contracts work?"Epstein added.

Of course, we know that the Cowboys can afford George; it is just a question of whether they want to.

After hearing how the offense stressed other teams' defensive schemes during its defensive coordinator interviews, the Cowboys know how valuable having Pickens on their team is.

And with the right environment under Schottenheimer, expect George to continue thriving.
