As Dak Prescott’s annual bonding trip showcases offensive chemistry, rising running back Jaydon Blue’s presence signals a potential breakout role and a serious shift in his professional development.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has made it an annual tradition during the time off between minicamp and training camp to take the offense on a retreat.
With the Pro Bowl quarterback using this time to connect with his teammates, build on chemistry, and work on the playbook, it is seen as a superb couple of days that bring the entire group together.
And Dak and his teammates have again gone on a retreat in an attempt to build a stronger bond, as pictures from the getaway have been making the rounds on social media.
We saw Joe Milton, Sam Howell, Luke Schoonmaker, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Brevyn Spann-Ford, and others being snapped after a workout in Park City, Utah, with DLLS reporting that there is "100-percent participation'' from the offensive skill guys.
But there was one player who was there that made me think the 2026 breakout season could be forthcoming.
And that's Jaydon Blue.
It is perhaps a subtle hint that the second-year running back is in the frame to be the backup for Javonte Williams.
I'm not sure Jaydon was at Dak's retreat last offseason, but the fact that he is at this one, at least to me, is a key watch because we know that the former Texas Longhorn has a lot in front of him in 2026.
Seen as a key piece of the Cowboys' offense under Brian Schottenheimer, if he can prove his worth in training camp, Blue has to hit the ground running.
And developing chemistry with Prescott and the other offensive weapons is a good first step for a maturing Blue to realize his potential in what looms as a crucial year for him.
Last season wasn't good for a host of reasons, but now there appears to be a positive shift from Blue after being dealt some home truths by Schottenheimer at the end-of-year exit meeting, and he's taken it on board.
Now, the fact that Blue is at Dak's retreat could be a big nothing burger, or it could be a little hint at what 2026 could have in store for him.
