We know the starters are sitting, so who will be taking the field in Seattle?

The Dallas Cowboys are playing football, folks, taking on the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field as Brian Schottenheimer's staff gears up for the regular season.

We already know that the starters won't be taking part against Seattle and, in truth, likely won't be at all in Dallas' three preseason games.

But that still leaves a lot of players who will take the field against the Seahawks, and we already have an idea of who we will see.

According to what we've heard, it will be Sam Howell who gets the start, playing the first half, and then Joe Milton going in the second half.

Most were of the idea that it would be Milton to get first crack, as it would signal that maybe he'll be going against the backups of Seattle, but it is Howell according to Machota.

Whether we read a lot into that or not is a fun topic.

Elsewhere, Tyler Guyton was seen in a ballcap pre-game, suggesting it will be Nate Thomas at left tackle. ... and a night off for the starting O-line.

Having been in a battle for the starting role before preseason, Thomas has been struggling with consistency in Oxnard, and as Schottenheimer stated, it will be a battle when he does get that consistency in his game.

Then we have the tight end room, and our own Mike Fisher has already been reporting that there will be no Jake Ferguson or Brevyn Spann-Ford against Seattle. ...

With Luke Schoonmaker, Michael Trigg, DJ Rogers and Zack Kuntz getting snaps.

That is a big tip of the cap to Spann-Ford, a player who we have been saying since the beginning of camp is the backup tight end, having overtaken Schoonmaker, and now we are seeing why.

Schoonmaker, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, needs to show something to note in these three preseason games. While Trigg and Rogers have both shown flashes, but nothing substantial as of yet.

But if the UDFA pair does show something against Seattle, and Schoonmaker doesn't, that will make for an interesting next couple of weeks in the tight end room.

Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence are also set to play in Seattle, most likely on very limited reps.

We will also see Shavon Revel, P.J. Locke, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling who were seen in uniform doing warmups.

Defensive players who won't be taking part, with names collected by Fisher and The Athletic, include Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, Otito Ogbonnia, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Rashan Gary, DeMarvion Overshown, Dee Winters, DaRon Bland, Cobie Durant, Malik Hooker, and Jalen Thompson.

On offense, we won't see Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams, Hunter Luepke, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, Kavontae Turpin, Jake Ferguson, Brevyn Spann-Ford, Terence Steele, Tyler Booker, Cooper Beebe, Tyler Smith, and Tyler Guyton.

It was also noted that Christian Parker will be calling plays from the sidelines in Seattle, so we will get a little insight into the rookie coordinator, while head coach Schottenheimer will be calling the offensive plays, with coordinator Klayton Adams waiting in the wings.
