Meanwhile, team owner Jerry Jones - after watching  his Cowboys surrender an NFL-high and franchise-record 511 points in 2025 - is rumored to be targeting a premier potential candidate in Brian Flores.

As the Cowboys search for their fourth defensive coordinator in the last four years, Dianna Russini of The Athletic has labeled Flores as a top "name to watch'' ... suggesting that the free-agent Vikings coordinator is already on the Dallas wish list.

But maybe unfortunately for Dallas, the rival Washington Commanders seem to want to get ahead of the Flores game.

Per a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Washington's Dan Quinn wants to interview Flores in for an interview.

There are addtional issues with issues with Flores. He surely wants to be a head coach again, and he is slated for that vacancy in Baltimore. Short of that, Minnesota wants to keep him.

But ...

He is out of contract; would Jerry spend to win a bidding war?

Flores, 44, is a controversial and combative guy and everybody’s cup of tea; Does the former Dolphins head coach “fit” the Jones-led circus here?

And if Jones hires Flores? It will be a public-relations coup for Cowboys Nation. And as for the defense on the field? Well, it couldn't possibly be worse that what Dallas fans just endured.

Coach Brian Schottenheiemer is supervising this process and promised a “wide net’’ is done being cast. Dallas has been true to its word there, with more rumors that mention older guys like Chuck Pagano (65, former Colts head coach) and younger guys like Jonathan Cooley (35, Carolina pass game coordinator).
