The Cowboys have added yet another receiver to the room, with former New York Jet Denzel Mims now part of Dak Prescott's weaponry.
The Dallas Cowboys have been really active in the past 48 hours, signing a host of players ahead of a roughly five-week break before training camp begins.
The offense has ben subject to change, with one move seeing Dallas dip into the UFL pool.
Receiver Denzel Mims is now on the Cowboys roster, having spent the 2026 season with the Dallas Renegades.
Before Mims took his talents to the UFL, he spent three years with the New York Jets, posting 676 yards from 42 receptions. So, hardly a needle-mover.
But now he comes to the Cowboys, a team that has always liked Mims, and his 6-3, 207-pound frame. Plus, at 28, he brings more experience to the room.
However, he doesn't come to Dallas in supreme form, with just six catches for 55 yards in six games for the Renegades, but it is clear the Cowboys think there is something they can unlock in the former second-round pick from Baylor.
So, what exactly is Dallas getting?
In short, a speed burner (4.38 40-yard dash) and a receiver who is physical through the catch, not to mention his matchup advantages due to his size.
In a similar mold to George Pickens physically, Mims can be a dangerous weapon downfield if given the chance. In his three years with the Jets, he averaged a crisp 16.1 yards per reception.
In his two years in the UFL, he averaged no less than 9.2 yards per catch, so he is a chain-mover. ... when he gets the ball.
Exactly where he fits into a receiver room that houses Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Jonathan Mingo, Traeshon Holden, Tyler Johnson, and Anthony Smith is unknown, but there is a reason Dallas wanted Mims.
Maybe that reason is this simple: Dallas has always wanted Mims, as this scouting department has over the years tried repeatedly to acquire him.
Now, he could be seen as a pure camp body for Oxnard, or with his physical gifts and veteran experience, he could offer something more both on and off the field.
What he isn't is a special-teams helper, and that may be his biggest road block. During his three Jets seasons, he only recorded a couple of snaps on teams.
A "bust'' in New York? Inarguably, with scouts saying he struggled to get separation for a team plagued by back quarterback play.
Mims even missed time with the Jets due to food poisoning, so yes, there was a dark cloud for him in Gotham.
With Dak Prescott leading the offense, maybe Mims could make something of himself, despite not playing an NFL game since 2022.
Mims, a Texas native, spent time on the practice squads of the Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars before heading to the UFL.
Now, he gets what might be his last, best shot at NFL football with the Cowboys.
