The Cowboys' offense was elite last season, but how does it stack up against the rest of the NFL?
Last season, the Dallas Cowboys had one of the best offenses in football, led by first-time head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who also served as the play-caller.
Dak Prescott and George Pickens had Pro Bowl seasons, Javonte Williams had a career-best year, CeeDee Lamb posted another 1,000-yard season, and Jake Ferguson found the end zone eight times.
The Cowboys averaged nearly 30 points a game for most of the year, as the unit did all of the heavy lifting, with the defense simply woeful for the majority of the year.
Now, as we turn for the new season, the Cowboys' offense has retained all of its star power.
Pickens is back, and the starting five of the offensive line returns, along with a healthy Dak and CeeDee. Barring injuries, there is no reason to think this won't be a top-five offense in football.
But when stacking it up against the rest of the offenses in football, where do the Cowboys rank?
CBS Sports' Jared Dubin has ranked each offense and their "infrastructure" and put the 32 units into tiers.
Play-caller, offensive line, receivers, and running back spots all factor into the "QB infrastructure," and the Cowboys, on Dubin's list, tie for fourth with the Detroit Lions.
Above Dallas, are the Chicago Bears (No. 2) and the Los Angeles Rams (No. 1).
So, a top-five QB infrastructure for the Cowboys feels about right. You can argue where in that top five Dallas could/should be ranked, but we would be splitting hairs.
With the offensive line of Tyler Guyton, Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, Tyler Booker, and Terence Steele, that is a solid front five.
CeeDee and Pickens are in the conversation for top receivers in football; Williams is a borderline top-10-ish running back; and Brian Schottenheimer proved last season that he is one heck of a play-caller, despite some missteps in his first year as head coach.
Looking ahead to 2026, there is every reason to think the Cowboys, who ranked fourth on this list, could improve on that ranking if they have the year we expect.
