Blue was inconsistent in his rookie season, but when he finally got his chance, he showed the Cowboys exactly what he's all about.

Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue will remember the 2025 season as one that had a steep learning curve.

The former Texas Longhorn had a good training camp, where he showed flashes of his speed both as a runner and receiver. But injury halted his progress, and it was tough sledding from then on.

Blue was in and out of the lineup early on in the year. He got a shot in Week 8 against the Denver Broncos as Dallas got curb-stomped, and Jaydon had a fumble.

He wasn't seen until Week 18.

Why? Our own Mike Fisher detailed Blue's inability to slow down when running the ball as a key reason.

His blazing speed means that if a hole or running lane didn't open up quickly enough, Blue would try to force his way through.

And in the NFL, that doesn't fly. He had no patience. More Le'Veon Bell-like, please.

Plus, Blue's consistency in his practice habits, both on and off the field, needed work, as it was an eye-opener for the rookie.

Something he even stated to head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

"Jaydon's a guy, it took a little while for it to get going, and he was one of my favorite exit interviews because he talked about how much he learned that wow, pro football is different," Schottenheimer said.

So as the weeks went on and Blue was a healthy scratch, Cowboys Nation was wondering why their prized rookie wasn't on the field.

Putting it simply. He wasn't good enough ... yet.

But week-after-week, he worked on his craft, and with the Cowboys out of playoff contention, Blue got his chance against the New York Giants in Week 18.

And it was worth it.

Jaydon produced 64 yards and a touchdown from his 16 carries. A lightning first-half saw Blue zig and zag his way through New York's defense.

Patience, speed, the ability to turn on a dime. It was all on show. ... and it demonstrated just a tiny glimpse at the possibility of "star power'' here.

Fans finally saw what they had hoped to see. Blue was a serious weapon.

"When he stepped on the field and got his opportunity against the Giants, no one was surprised," Schottenheimer added. "I just think the playmaking, the vision, and just the absolute acceleration and game-changing speed is real."

Fish has stated the Cowboys envision a "Thunder and Lightning" tandem of Javonte Williams and Blue next season. Malik Davis can also throw his name into the ring as well after impressing.

But in truth, Blue has to take a big step forward in his development over the offseason.

Because the physical traits are too good for him not to be on the field.

And the only thing, it appears, that is stopping Jaydon from seeing the field in 2026 is Jaydon himself.
