The Cowboys missed out on Maxx Crosby, and according to ESPN, the franchise is rather upset about it.
The Dallas Cowboys were one of the teams that were interested in trading for Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby.
But it was clear early on that the Raiders wanted a significant haul in return for their star pass-rusher.
How significant? Two first-round picks to be exact.
The Cowboys were only willing to part ways with one, not two, and as such, fell down the pecking order of the Crosby suitions.
The Baltimore Ravens ended up being the team to "win" the race for Maxx's signature, giving the Raiders two first-round picks in exchange.
So it appears Dallas wanted Crosby, but was only willing to go so far in trying to land its big fish.
The desire was there, but only to a certain extent.
And for ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, he's reporting something rather interesting on Dallas' feelings about missing out on Crosby.
“They need a pass rusher, they have to pivot," Fowler said. "They were devastated they did not land Max Crosby. They just had limits as far as how they would go with the draft picks."
Hmm. Devastated, you say?
Now, we aren't discounting Fowler's report, but something doesn't add up to me here.
If the Cowboys were "devastated," as Fowler states, then one would be right to think the franchise would be willing to do anything to get the deal over the line, right?
But it was evident early on this offseason that the Cowboys weren't going to part ways with both first-round picks.
So, I'm not sure how devastated Dallas is that is lost out on Crosby.
Yes, it's not ideal, but the Cowboys clearly had a price in mind, one they weren't willing to go past.
We admire the willingness to try and land a big name, and also knowing when to fold and move on.
Given the abundance of free agent pass rushers set to become available, the Cowboys are still in a good position to address their needs.
Yes, Maxx would have been great, but it is hardly the end of the world, given the Cowboys still have plenty of avenues to go down in the coming weeks.
But devastated at losing Crosby? I'm not sure about that.
