The Cowboys' move for Rashan Gary has been met with various reactions since the trade happened.

The Dallas Cowboys, as expected, were active as free agency began, with the franchise bringing in a bundle of defensive players for Christian Parker.

One was Arizona Cardinals safety Jalen Thompson, a move that was met with fanfare.

A nice player to pair with Malik Hooker in the secondary.

Another move was a trade for Green Bay Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary.

The Cowboys sent a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Packers to acquire Gary, and the deal has been met with different reactions.

Some think parting ways with a fourth-round pick next year, for the chance at Gary rediscovering his form, is a good bet.

Yes, he has had at least 7.5 sacks in each of the last three seasons, but the big knock on Gary, at least last year, was his drop in production.

He still managed 7.5 sacks, but all of them came in the first seven games. After that?

He didn't have one for the rest of the year.

And for ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, the move for Gary isn't the game-changer Dallas needs.

"He's an improvement, no doubt, one would summize that he's going to help the Dallas Cowboys," Smith said. "The Cowboys were right to go after him after you lucked out on Maxx Crosby or Khalil Mack, I get that. But let's pump the brakes if we're thinking this is going to be some sort of a game-changer.

"Rashan Gary can play, he is not a scrub, but he's definitely underproduced according to expectations in a latter part of the year once Micah Parsons went down."

So there is merit to the thought that, without Micah, Gary was a shadow of himself.

But if we put him on a defensive line with Kenny Clark, Osa Odighizuwa, and Quinnen Williams, we think he can get some favorable matchups in Parker's system.

The money is also a big deal for some. Gary has a $19.5 million cap hit in 2026, and that jumps to $22.5 milliom in 2027.

But per Over The Cap, if the Cowboys restructure his deal this season, it creates $8.7 million in cap space. So that is in play.

A "game-changer''? Stephen A. Smith doesn't really know whether a football is blown-up or stuffed. But he's probably guessing correctly here ...

And Cowboys Nation probably wants Dallas to give Parker a few more tools.
