Demercado is now a Cowboy, and he links up with a familiar face as well.
The Dallas Cowboys needed a running back after cutting Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah, and Israel Abanikanda, and it led them to Emari Demercado.
A former Arizona Cardinal, who was cut from the Kansas City Chiefs a few days ago, the bruising and powerful back now lands at The Star and has already gotten to work on the practice field.
Many thought the Cowboys would keep Blue, but once he was cut, it was a surefire sign another back would be coming into the equation.
But what made the Cowboys go after Emari?
"Yeah, really excited, this guy's got, I think, 20 explosives over the last couple years," head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. "He's been with Klayton [Adams], got very good vision. He's a build-up speed guy that's got explosive playmaking ability. We love his pass protection, both understanding the scheme but also in executing the protection principles.
"Couple guys in Arizona, they all spoke to the young man, and what a great fit he would be in our locker room, which we obviously hold in high regard."
So the Cowboys know exactly what they are getting from Demercado. Averaging 6.5 yards per attempt in his career, he knows how to move the ball.
But what is perhaps another good thread to pull is that Demercado is reunited with Klayton Adams, whom he worked with in Arizona.
And Emari revealed that as soon as he knew it was Dallas calling, that meant working with Klayton again.
"Klayton's my guy," Demercado said. "As soon as my agent called me and he told me Dallas, I just immediately thought about Klayton. Then he called me, we got on the phone, super excited to work with him again."
Coming to one of the best offenses in football, Demercado's role isn't exactly known right now, with a big dose of special teams likely thrown in as he gets his feet under him in Dallas.
But when he does get offensive snaps, he'll have CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens helping make light boxes for him.
"Yeah, that's awesome," Demercado said of playing with Lamb and Pickens. "Explosive pass game, explosive run game. You can't ask for anything better than that."
