The Cowboys and Saints had a joint practice that was almost like WWE at times.
The Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints held a joint practice in Oxnard on Tuesday, but head coach Brian Schottenheimer will be livid with what his team dished up.
Not because of the play on the field, but because of the fights that ensued, and there were a lot of them.
Yes, there was some good work on the field as well - and there was the newest Cowboy, Von Miller, doing work on the sidelines - but the fights were the main theme of the day.
With plenty of things to unpack, here are our five key takeaways from the Cowboys' second joint practice of the offseason.
1 - Fights, fights, and more fights:
This is what the practice will be remembered for.
Donovon Ezeiruaku was ejected again for throwing a punch, which is the second time this offseason, and Brian Schottenheimer, speaking after the practice, wasn't at all impressed that his team went to the line and then proceeded to go straight past it.
"A little chippy," he said. "Not the way we like to do business. Got to be better, but I got to look at the film. We're certainly not going to take [expletive] from anybody, but again, it was chippy on both sides."
Safety Jalen Thompson was asked if the Cowboys won the fights and he gave an obvious answer.
“Of course we did. Come on now."
2 - Cowboys flourish in the red zone:
One of the biggest bugaboos from the last half of last season, was Dallas' allergy to the end zone.
Well, against the Saints, Dak Prescott was dealing, throwing a couple of touchdowns, as the Saints' defense couldn't stop him, throwing three TDs in six plays, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
Dak did have an interception, but overall, he cooked the Saints defense in the red zone.
3 - Secondary struggles with Chris Olave, but defense still productive:
The star receiver at times had his way with the Dallas defense, grabbing a touchdown with Christian Parker's defense struggling to contain him, with Caleb Downs going toe-to-toe with him on most reps.
The rush defense was in good order again as Quinnen Williams made a huge stop on the ground. The defense also snagged a couple of interceptions, per Patrik Walker of Dallascowboys.com.
4 - Milton QB2?
The battle between Joe Milton and Sam Howell continues, with Joe getting more second-team reps against the Saints in Oxnard.
We know that Howell got the start in Seattle, and Schottenheimer detailed that this week would decide who starts against Arizona.
With Milton getting more reps, that might point to him getting the nod.
5 - Offensive injuries:
Fullback Hunter Luepke was seen walking to the locker room with a team doctor with an undisclosed injury, but did manage to walk there without assistance.
Plus, running back Jaydon Blue didn't practice for the second straight day due to a shoulder injury, so Israel Abanikanda got some burn against the Saints.
It isn't known if Blue will be a go for this weekdnd's preseason game at the Arizona Cardinals, as is the case with promising rookie tight end Michael Trigg (toe).
