The Cowboys have been active in free agency, but could the franchise still be on the lookout for new pieces?

For most, the Dallas Cowboys shouldn't be putting their cue in the free agency rack.

After a good opening to free agency, which saw the franchise be far more proactive than in previous years, a handful of players were acquired.

Jalen Thompson, Rashan Gary, PJ Locke, Cobie Durant, Sam Howell, Matt Hennessy, Derion Kendrick, and Tyrus Wheat have been the outside free agents signed.

In-house, Sam Williams, George Pickens (franchise tag), and Javonte Williams were the big names. Others include Corey Ballentine, Reddy Stewart, and Princeton Fant.

So there has been a lot of moving and shaking from the Cowboys over the past handful of weeks.

But as most of Cowboys Nation knows, more is needed for Christian Parker's defense.

The Maxx Crosby rumors just won't go away, despite the Las Vegas Raiders star stating he is happy where he is.

Then we have other rumors for players like Jordyn Brooks and Azeez Al-Shaair. Plus names we have thrown out like Bobby Wagner and Bobby Okereke.

Fans don't want the Cowboys' offseason business to be done.

And according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, it isn't.

"Yeah, I think obviously we did a hell of a job in free agency," Schottenheimer said. "We've added some really good pieces. We've got some good depth. There's still a few positions that we need to address.

"That's all part of the process, I say all the time, not my line, I think it's Stephen's or Jerry's, but it's 24/7, 365, and it never stops. But we're never stopping to look (for players). We're always open for business."

There are rumblings that the Cowboys could still add a veteran linebacker like Brooks ahead of the draft, which got fans excited.

But as the days roll on, hope is dwindling.

Another idea would be to wait out the draft and then see if somebody like Wagner is still needed.

Still, the Cowboys have a host of needs to address, either in free agency or the draft. And the franchise has the ammunition to do it.

The big question is, will those needs be filled with bargain-basement options, or players who can make a real difference as starters?

For me, they have to be starters.

Dallas' two first-round picks have to be Day 1 starters for Parker, and the veteran linebacker is a no-brainer. That will likely be a player who wears the green dot in 2026.

Fans don't want the Cowboys to be closed for business in free agency, and if we believe Schotty's words, there might still be something being worked on in the shadows.
