It appears Jerry Jones' comments on how Dallas will approach free agency have some thinking times really are changing.
For Dallas Cowboys fans, this offseason has been a breath of fresh air.
After the hiring of Christian Parker, coupled with how quickly the franchise signed Javonte Williams, tagged George Pickens, and is already talking with Brandon Aubrey about a new deal, hope is building.
Of course, Cowboys Nation has been burnt before -- and often.
Jerry Jones' "all-in" quote is still ringing in our ears, after all.
So yes, the changes in how Dallas has approached certain aspects of the NFL offseason have been notable.
But we are still awaiting the "proper" proof when free agency opens in the coming weeks. Our own Mike Fisher has stated that the Cowboys are monitoring the Maxx Crosby situation in Las Vegas.
That's at least something. It's not a Derrick Henry situation.
That is the type of move fans hope the franchise makes.
But while some fans and media alike are rightly skeptical of the Cowboys' proposed approach, one ESPN analyst is sold.
Peter Schrager expects Dallas to be "all-in" during this offseason.
"I look at this free agency class, Jaelan Phillips, Devin Lloyd, Alontae Taylor, Boye Mafe, Tariq Woolen, all of those names would be names that I'm imagining Jerry, Stephen, and Will McClay will have their eyes on," Schrager said on First Take.
"They also have the 12th and 20th pick in a very deep defensive draft. There is a chance [the] Cowboys, come out Day 1 after free agency, we're saying wow, well that's been unlike them the last couple of years.
"They got the money, they've got the needs, and they have the desire and will with Jerry. I expect Dallas to be big players in free agency."
Now, I can hear you scoffing at Scharger's notion here. And frankly, the Cowboys deserve it.
After years of not following through on what they have stated they would do, what makes this year different?
Cowboys Nation is now at the point where they are in a "show me," don't "tell me" mood.
Yes, the Cowboys have said all the right things this offseason, but fans want action, and the right type of action at that.
Maybe not swinging for the fences, but close to it.
No more bargain-basement free agents. Get starting-caliber players who will raise the floor of the defense.
Schrager seems sold on Dallas' approach.
Me? I'll believe it when I see it.
